At the NC Research Campus, nutrition education and outreach is a critical part of our mission. Cooking demonstrations and free resources are just some of the ways that people learn about our nutrition research and how to apply it to improve their health and quality of life. Cabarrus Health Alliance, the public health department for Cabarrus County where the NCRC is located, is directed by Fred Pilkington who oversees a staff of over 200 people who provide nutrition education through a variety of programs and free cooking classes. Learn more.

Chef Mark Allison, the Dole Nutrition Institute’s director of culinary nutrition, leads cooking demonstrations, tests recipes and develops educational materials that combine nutrition and easy cooking techniques to help people take advantage of the health benefits of a plant-based diet. Learn more.

Aubrey Mast, MPH, certified health coach and a nutrition associate with North Carolina Cooperative Extension at the NC State University Plants for Human Health Institute (PHHI), raises the awareness of North Carolina crops through teaching their nutritional benefits and healthy ways to prepare them. UNC Chapel Hill Nutrition Research Institute’s  Director of Community Outreach Suzanne Dane, coordinates monthly, free events that highlight the research of NRI scientists, especially the links between nutrition and disease prevention. Learn more.
