Benjamin Machon has been named interim director of business development for the David H. Murdock Research Institute.
That nonprofit research institute is part of the N.C. Research Campus in Kannapolis. That 350-acre life-sciences hub focuses on health, nutrition and agriculture.
Machon replaces Mike Luther, who has taken a position with a biotechnology company in the Boston area. Luther was named as the research institute’s first president in March 2009, before later taking a role as chief business officer.
Machon joined the Kannapolis organization as life-science business development manager in April. His background is in management and business development with experience in the biotechnology and health-care industries.
Prior to joining the Murdock institute, he served as business-development director for BRT Laboratories, a contract-research organization focused on oncology diagnostic development. Machon received a bachelor’s in biology from Elon University. He holds a master’s in biology from East Carolina University and an MBA from Vanderbilt University.
The research institute’s board says it is conducting a search to find “the best possible professional to lead business development going forward.”
No timetable for the search was provided.
