North Carolina Research Campus, Kannapolis, NC- October 5, 2012)- Wednesday, October 24, 2012 is National Food Day, a national movement to promote healthy and sustainable food. To celebrate, the North Carolina Research Campus and restaurant Forty-Six in downtown Kannapolis invite everyone to discover the wonders of pumpkins throughout the week of October 21 to 27, 2012.
Chef John Blumreich of Forty-Six will be adding pumpkin dishes to the menu daily. Forty Six is open for lunch every day as well as dinner Thursday through Saturday and Sunday brunch.
On Thursday, October 25 at 4 pm, join Chef John at the Farmers Market, 120 West Avenue in downtown Kannapolis, as he demonstrates how to cook pumpkin recipes and gives samples of his tasty and healthy pumpkin dishes.
From the seeds to the skin, pumpkins are more than a seasonal decoration. They are full of the antioxidant beta-carotene that converts to vitamin A in the body. A diet high in beta-carotene is linked to a reduced risk for developing certain types of cancer and heart disease. Pumpkins are also low calorie, low fat and contain dietary fiber, potassium, calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, selenium, vitamin C, niacin, folate and vitamin E.
The showing of the movie Food Matters, which was previously scheduled for October 24, is cancelled. Join the NC Research Campus and restaurant Forty-Six for a celebration of the pumpkin instead.
