NC Research Campus, Kannapolis, NC, March 12, 2015– Today, the City of Kannapolis announced a successful negotiation for the purchase of downtown properties owned by David H. Murdock, founder of the NC Research Campus and owner of Dole Foods and Castle & Cooke. In response, Lynne Scott Safrit, DrPh, president of the NC Research Campus and Castle & Cooke, North Carolina, and Mr. Murdock share their excitement and offer their support of the city’s redevelopment goals:

“This is an exciting day for our community,” commented Safrit. “Mr. Murdock is pleased to be working with the City of Kannapolis on this historic and innovative transaction. The City Council’s vision and enthusiasm toward making the downtown an energetic and vibrant center of activity will only enhance the NC Research Campus and its ability to attract world class scientific partners to our community.”

Mr. Murdock added:  “I am excited to work hand in hand with the City Council as they focus on redevelopment initiatives in the downtown as I continue to focus on the scientific growth of the Research Campus. Both of these components are critical to the future economic growth and development of our community.”
