NC Research Campus, Kannapolis, NC May 4, 2015– David H. Murdock, chairman and chief executive officer of Castle & Cooke North Carolina, LLC and builder and founder of the NC Research Campus (NCRC), appointed Clyde Higgs to the position of executive vice president of operations and business development for Castle & Cooke North Carolina, LLC and Atlantic American Properties, Inc.
In his new position, Higgs directs the daily operations of the NCRC and the Kannapolis-based offices of Castle & Cooke North Carolina, LLC, the NCRC’s developer, and Atlantic American Properties, Inc. He also continues to oversee NCRC business development as he has done since 2006.
Higgs’ recruited NCRC partners like General Mills and Carolinas Healthcare System to the campus. He spearheaded construction of the NCRC Medical Plaza, ready-to-go laboratories and flexible office space in the David H. Murdock Core Laboratory building. He helped launch the NCRC’s groundbreaking training and education initiative the Plant Pathways Elucidation Project (P2EP).
Previously, Higgs directed the technology incubator program at the University of North Texas-Health Science Center, served on the Texas Emerging Technology Fund Board and directed the Office of Technology Transfer & Commercialization at North Carolina A&T State University. He serves on the State Board of Community Colleges, the State Superintendent’s Commission on Workforce Development and is involved with other non-profit and foundation boards.
