An outreach program of the Kannnapolis, N.C.-based DNI, Get Up and Grow! gives consumers more than a dozen tangible ways to improve their nutritional well-being.
The Get Up and Grow! Tour, the highlight of the multiyear initiative, set off from New Orleans, Dallas and Pittsburgh May 27-28 to deliver a message of easy, delicious nutrition to 44 cities in 25 U.S. states and multiple Canadian provinces over 115 days. A full Tour schedule is available at www.dole.com/GetUpandGrow; co-sponsoring the Tour is Blue Diamond Almond Breeze® Almondmilk.
“Get Up and Grow! goes beyond past Dole tours to directly challenge North Americans to adopt a diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables,” explained Bil Goldfield, director of communications for the Dole Food Company. “We recognize that with our role as a nutrition leader comes an obligation to make healthy eating as compelling as we can. So, in addition to sampling new recipes from the Dole Test Kitchens, this year’s visitors can make their own smoothies and even take home an exclusive fruit and vegetable tracking scorecard and other free tools designed to help them realize their healthy-eating mission.”
New recipes available for sampling in Charlotte range from the Creamy Orange Smoothie to the Grilled Romaine with Balsamic Glazed Strawberries. Visitors can also learn about the Banana and Blue Breakfast Smoothie, Power Punch Smoothie, Spinach-Avocado Hummus, Grilled Banana Parfait, Southwestern Gazpacho, Caesar’s Bounty Salad and the Charred Summer Salad, which Dole has proclaimed 2015’s “Official Salad of Summer.” All recipes will be featured in the Get Up and Grow recipe books that are being distributed at every Tour stop.
Visitors at each Get Up and Grow! Tour stop can also present a grocery receipt showing a qualifying level of DOLE® fresh purchases to receive a complimentary gift such as a Get Up and Grow ! T-shirt or other limited-edition, branded item.
According to CarrieAnn Arias, VP of marketing for Dole Fresh Vegetables, the new Get Up and Grow! Pledge gives consumers a tangible action step to getting healthy in 2015. “We wanted to encourage consumers to set their own personal health and wellness goals – and then stay connected with them throughout the year to provide the recipes, resources and motivation to help them reach those goals.” She says the partnership with DNI and Dole’s Registered Dietitian (RD), Jenn LaVardera, gives the program an important nutritional research and education component.
As in past years, Dole and Blue Diamond Almond Breeze® will educate registered dietitians (RDs), supermarket nutritionists, food bloggers and other influencers about fresh fruits and vegetables, almonds and almondmilk through media appearances, tastings and educational summits.
The initiative is also being supported by PR, social and geo-targeted mobile media programs designed to educate the public about the extraordinary health, taste and conveniences of fresh produce, and to drive consumers into participating supermarkets along the four-month Tour route.
“We’re excited to widen our partnership in 2015 to both Dole Fresh divisions and the Dole Nutrition Institute for Get Up and Grow!,” said Suzanne Hagener, senior marketing manager of Blue Diamond Almond Breeze®. “Together, Dole and Blue Diamond represent the best of healthy summer eating and through new recipes that feature Almond Breeze®, we hope to prove that almond milk is a convenient, nutritious and great-tasting alternative to traditional milk options.”
